4th and 5th Grades
Students in Engineering Design worked on the courtyard sculpture this past semester. They have also been working on individual projects such as their Drew Derby Racer and their room redesign.
Students are also working on a Drew Derby Racer. Students were given the task to make a pinewood derby racer (small scale). They researched race cars and the pinewood derby itself, are developing their ideas, and will ultimately make a car with a partner to test in an official race. Project documents as well as photos of students in the process are posted below.

Students in Engineering Design are also partnering with Jeff Mather our artist-in-residence to work on a permanent site sculpture in the courtyard. Students have decided on a theme of "flow," considering water, movement, and sound. Students have conducted research including having visiting artists come for presentations that would inform their design work. Students have now created sketches to inspire the final composite sketch. A composite sketch was presented by the students for final approval to Mr. Doran, Ms. Lindsay Mann (the landscape architect responsible for the courtyard renovation), and Grady Cousins (stakeholder and fellow courtyard artist). We broke ground September 20th, 2013. The final project was completed in mid-October and was officially dedicated shortly there-after with student dancers and musicians joining us to commemorate the event. Several pictures from the event may be seen in the slideshow below.
