7th/8th grade design challenge |
Students had fun choosing their own teams and creating a 1 x 5 board design challenge. They had three work days and 10 boards (plus scraps) to build anything they wanted. This team wanted to honor their friend with the letters LLA, Long Live Amare.

This team created an architectural sculpture using a simple triangular design
The industrial designers who wanted something real, they made a working easel!
Teachers and parents visited our gallery walk and enjoyed some refreshments as the students discussed their work.
7th/ 8th grade hummingbird linkages project |
These students worked diligently to create a motion beyond what the motor makes on its own by using linkages to recreate an animal's motion. They coded the motors from our Hummingbird robotics kit and were very artistic in their animal creations.

Soap Box Derby 2015
Junior Academy students received a grant from PNC Bank to participate in the Gravity Racing Challenge in Akron, Ohio. Students also participated in the regional tournament in Dunwoody, GA. Two student teams (pictured above) built the cars from the ground up. Student learned about steering, braking, and the physics behind racing.
Box City Project
February 4th - 7th 2013
Paul Hammock from the Atlanta Preservation Center came and worked with Junior Academy Students. He discussed issues surrounding architecture and urban planning. Students learned about different types of buildings (residential, commercial, civic, and industrial). Then student drew up plans for their own building for our imaginary model city. Next students created their buildings using boxes. Students voted for the placement of their buildings with-in our mock city based on the needs of the community.
